Starting My Indie Developer Journey: Building a personal finance tracking app

As I take my first steps into the world of indie development, I find myself at a familiar crossroads. While I've previously crafted software and apps, this venture marks a significant departure: I'll be the sole owner, with no external funding. This time, it's a personal finance tracker.

Finding the Problem

To make a good app, you need to solve a personal problem. For me, it's keeping track of where my money goes. I used a simple Google Spreadsheet, but it's not great on the phone. So, I'm thinking of making an app.

Why Another Money App?

Yes, there are many money apps, but none of them fit perfectly. "Bilance" is close, but it wants a monthly fee for basic things. I'm okay with paying extra for automatic bank syncing, but basic stuff should be free.

The Tech I'm Using:

  • Supabase for the app's backend
  • Flutter to make it work on any device
  • Later on, I'll add GoCardless Data as a fancy feature allowing automated data entry.

What I've Done So Far:

I've done some research, planned how the app will look, and set up the basics like a login screen. The Supabase backend is up and running, ready to support the app's functionality.
